Launch of Digital Product Passport for Socklab® socks by Interloop Europe/Socklab® and GS1 Netherlands
With great pride, Interloop Europe/Socklab and GS1 Netherlands announce the successful launch of the first functional Digital Product Passport (DPP) for socks. Just three months ago, a pilot project was initiated to explore the possibilities of a DPP, using Socklab® socks made from 100% organic materials as the starting point.
For this pilot, GS1 Netherlands and Interloop Europe collaborated with GS1 Pakistan, Interloop Pakistan (manufacturer of the socks), and Octans Digital Pakistan. Octans, a subsidiary of Interloop Holdings, has developed its own track & trace system called Looptrace®. Interloop is a vertically integrated organization, and with Looptrace®, we can fully map out the entire supply chain.
In this pilot, GS1’s master data (GTIN and GLN codes) was integrated with Looptrace®, resulting in a complete traceability map of the supply chain for these socks. This unique Digital Product Passport provides insight into the origin and production steps of the Socklab® socks and aligns seamlessly with the legislation that will become mandatory in Europe from 2027. The Digital Product Passport operates via a QR Code powered by GS1 on the socks, offering insight into all relevant steps and materials used in their production.
Implementing a QR code on the product proved to be a considerable challenge, but thanks to intensive collaboration with all partners in this project, we can now offer our customers a fully functional Digital Product Passport. This, in turn, aligns perfectly with our mission: “to be an agent of positive change for the stakeholders and community by pursuing an ethical and sustainable business.”
With pride, Pascal Betten (Managing Director Interloop Europe) and Jeanet van der Stoel (Sector Lead, Textile and Apparel GS1 NL) presented this pilot—quite literally on socks. The third copy was handed over to GS1 President & CEO, Renaud de Barbuat. Thanks to the success of this pilot, we can now extend the Digital Product Passport to our other products and product groups. This marks an important step towards a more transparent and sustainable textile industry.
We would like to extend our gratitude to all partners in this pilot for their valuable contributions.
